Highlights: 2024 Business Survey in Muttenz
As part of the establishment of Wirtschaftsförderung Muttenz (WiFöM), an online survey was conducted among local businesses between 1 and 30 June 2023.
The objectives of the survey were to analyse the existing business landscape, assess the demand for a local business support organisation, and identify the needs of local businesses.
A total of 744 businesses were invited to participate in the survey. We received 77 completed responses, representing a response rate of more than 12%. Companies of all sizes and from a wide range of industries took part, as illustrated in Charts 1 and 2.
Key Findings
- The survey identified a strong demand for an active business development organisation.
- The majority of surveyed businesses expressed their intention to expand at their current location in Muttenz (Chart 5).
- Whether this growth can be realised depends on a range of factors, which are developed to varying degrees in Muttenz. These include, for example, public transport and road connectivity, the availability and cost of commercial space, and the development of business areas.
- The growing shortage of skilled professionals and workers has been identified as a major challenge. Respondents see a local business development organisation as being able to contribute to addressing this issue through targeted measures.
- A key priority for Wirtschaftsförderung Muttenz (WiFöM) is to connect stakeholders, not only among businesses but also with the region’s strong education cluster and public authorities.

Key Findings (Summary)
- A representative mix of service providers, trades and industry sectors was achieved.
- Transport connectivity, the availability and cost of commercial space, and the municipality’s service-oriented approach are regarded as key location factors.

- The majority of respondents would like to see active support for projects initiated by and in collaboration with the local business community. They also shared specific needs and proposed initial project ideas.
